Privacy Policy

Last updated October 26, 2026

This policy explains what Ciyage collects when you use the site, why we collect it, who helps us run the service, and what you can do about it. You can browse the catalog, read notes and use the recommender without an account.

What we collect

When you create an account:

  • Your email address and a password. Your password is handled by our sign-in provider and is never stored by Ciyage in readable form.
  • If you sign in with Google, Google shares your email address and basic profile details (such as your name) with us so we can create and sign in to your account.
  • Your profile: your username, display name, an optional profile photo, and your answer to the “what do you lean toward” question when you join.

When you use Ciyage while signed in, we store what you add so it follows you between devices:

  • your collection, how it is arranged on your shelf, and any groups you make;
  • your personal reviews and ratings;
  • your votes on fragrance questions, your comments and replies, and the comments you heart;
  • your rankings and the comparisons you made to build them;
  • your wear log: which fragrance you wore on which day.

If you subscribe to Ciyage Extrait, we store your Stripe customer and subscription reference, your plan, its status, and its renewal or end date. Your card details go straight to Stripe through its own payment form. Ciyage never sees or stores your card number. To show your billing page we read your card’s brand, last four digits and expiry, and your recent invoices, from Stripe when you open it.

Your location and the weather

The Today page can show the weather and record it with your wears. It only reads your location if you allow your browser to share it, by pressing Use location and accepting your browser’s prompt. Once you have allowed it, the page reads your location each time you open it, until you withdraw the permission in your browser’s settings.

Your browser sends your approximate coordinates (rounded to about 1 kilometer) directly to Open-Meteo, a free weather service, to get the weather. Ciyage’s servers never receive your coordinates. The coordinates and the weather are kept in your browser only until you close the tab.

When you log a wear while that weather is available, we store the day’s average temperature and a one-word description of the sky (for example, Rain) with the wear. We never store where you were.

When you click a seller’s offer on a fragrance page, we add one to a running count of clicks for that offer and note the time of the latest click. The count is not linked to you or your account. A search link to a marketplace such as eBay goes there directly and is not counted by us. After the click you are on the seller’s site, and the seller or its affiliate network may use cookies under their own privacy policies.

Some seller rows show the seller’s own product photo, which your browser loads from the seller’s servers. Like any web request, that tells the seller your IP address and that the image was requested, but nothing about your Ciyage account.

Analytics, and no advertising

We count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which records the page viewed, the referring site, the browser type and how fast the page loaded. It sets no cookies, stores nothing in your browser and does not follow you between sites or visits. Ciyage uses no advertising trackers or tracking pixels.

Why we use it

  • to run your account and sign you in;
  • to save your collection, reviews, rankings and wear log, and keep them in sync across your devices;
  • to show other people the things you choose to make public;
  • to take payment for Extrait and give you its features;
  • to keep the community safe, for example by limiting how fast comments can be posted and removing content that breaks our Terms;
  • to answer you when you write to us.

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for advertising.

Who helps us run Ciyage

  • Supabase stores your account and everything you save, and sends our account emails.
  • Stripe processes Extrait payments and keeps your payment details.
  • Google handles sign-in if you choose Sign in with Google.
  • Cloudflare hosts the website and delivers its pages.
  • Open-Meteo provides the weather, only if you share your location as described above.

Each of them handles your information under its own terms and privacy policy, and only to provide its part of the service.

What is public and what is private

Your username, display name and profile photo can be seen by anyone. Your comments show your name. Votes and hearts are only ever shown as totals; nobody can see how you voted or what you hearted.

Your personal reviews, rankings, wear log and the answer you gave when you joined are private. Your shelf is private too unless you share it. In Account, under Sharing, an Extrait member can open their shelf to anyone with a private link, or to anyone at their username’s address. A shared shelf shows your collection, its layout and your personal reviews of those bottles. It never shows prices, your rankings or your wear log. If your Extrait plan ends, your shared shelf stops showing until you subscribe again.

Browser storage, not cookies

Ciyage sets no cookies of its own. It keeps your sign-in session, your collection, reviews, rankings and wear log, your recommender answers, and a few display preferences in your browser’s local storage, so the site works quickly and works before you sign in. If you never create an account, that information stays on your device and never reaches us. Clearing your browser’s site data removes it.

The Sign in with Google button and Stripe’s payment form are provided by Google and Stripe, and they may set their own cookies, for example to prevent fraud.

Deleting your account

You can delete your account at any time in Account, under Security, with Delete account. Deleting it:

  • cancels any Extrait subscription straight away;
  • removes your account, profile, profile photo, collection and its layouts, personal reviews, votes, rankings and wear log;
  • clears the copy of your collection and reviews kept in the browser you delete from.

Two things stay. The text of your comments stays in our database, no longer linked to your account, but your comments come off the fragrance pages, and so do the replies other people wrote under them. A page built before you deleted your account can still show them until the site is next rebuilt. If you want that stored text erased, write to us and we will delete it. And Stripe keeps your customer record and receipts for any Extrait payments, as payment and tax records require.

Until you delete your account, we keep your information for as long as the account is open. You can change your profile in Account at any time, and you can write to us to ask for a copy of your information.

Children

Ciyage is not meant for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from them. If you believe a child has created an account, write to us and we will delete it.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update the date at the top of this page. If a change is significant, we will also say so on the site before it takes effect.
